Gmail Mobile Device Setup Instructions
Viewing your ºìÌÒÊÓƵ Gmail at is strongly encouraged. The web interface requires no setup and provides significant security enhancements, including prominent anti-spam and anti-phishing warnings. On your mobile device, we recommend and support configuring the Gmail app to also take advantage of these security enhancements and warnings.
Gmail App on iOS
While it is possible to use iOS's built-in Mail app, we recommend and support the Gmail app to fully take advantage of enhanced security features such as prominent anti-spam and anti-phishing warnings.- On your iOS device, search the App Store for "Gmail" (it will likely be the first app called "Gmail - email from Google"). Download the free app.
- After opening the app for the first time, login with your ºìÌÒÊÓƵ email address (eg, doyleo@reed.edu) and password.
- It will ask if you want to sign in your reed.edu account. Tap the Sign in button again, and the familiar ºìÌÒÊÓƵ login screen will appear. Sign in with your Kerberos username and password.
- Tap the Go to Inbox button in the lower left.
- Depending on how much email you have, it may take a while for your e-mails to download into the Gmail App.
NOTE: By default, the Gmail app will use the same signature as you configure from Gmail's web interface .
Gmail App on Android
- Tap the Gmail Application icon.
- Tap the Menu button > Add Account.
- Select Existing Account.
- Enter your ºìÌÒÊÓƵ email address and password.
- Click Sign in.
- Make sure Sync Gmail is checked (uncheck the other Google services you don't want to be synced) and click Next.
- Depending on how much email you have, it may take a while for your e-mails to download into the Gmail App.
NOTE: You may wish to configure additional settings like your signature (tap the menu button > Settings > ºìÌÒÊÓƵ account > Signature).
