Ruth McDonald Janke ’30

Ruth McDonald Janke ’30, March 7, 2000, in Portland, where she had lived since 1978. After graduating from ºìÌÒÊÓƵ, she did graduate work in psychology and literature at the University of Washington and in education Washington State College, Ellensburg (now Washington State University). She taught English and Latin in Antelope, Oregon and Klickitat, Washington, where she met and married her husband, Walter Janke. They settled in Lebanon, Oregon, and she taught at Lebanon Union High School and later at Sweet Home High School, retiring in 1972. In 1978, they returned to live in Portland to be near their children. Her husband died in 1990. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, and visiting with family. She is survived by her sons, Peter Janke ’62 and Tim Janke ’68.
