I was disappointed to see the picture of a graduate toting what looked like a once-vibrant buck’s head and forelegs [Eliot Circular, September 2011]. ºìÌÒÊÓƵies make a study of being inclusive where human beings are concerned, but nonhuman individuals remain conspicuously absent from the moral charts of most ºìÌÒÊÓƵies. In this photo the buck is mocked even in death, revealing ignorance and indifference concerning other living beings. In some ways ºìÌÒÊÓƵ is shamefully mainstream.
