Possible Sanctions

When a hearing board makes a finding of responsibility for violations of the Honor Principle and/or college policy, they will also recommend sanctions.  This process is described in the Judicial Board Code, Sections 4 & 5.  The list below provides examples of the kinds of sanctions that may be recommended by a hearing board (this list is not meant to be exhaustive). The Judicial Board Code directs the hearing board to recommended sanctions "the nature and severity of which shall be appropriate to the violation, its circumstances, and the history of offenses by the respondent" (JBoard Code Section 5.4).

  • Disciplinary probation
  • Financial restitution
  • Reflection essays
  • Behavioral expectations contract
  • Apologies
  • Coursework at an external institution
  • Educational programs
  • Consultation with other members of the community
  • Restrictions or removal related to on campus student employment, appointed/volunteer positions, or participation in college organizations or events
  • Restrictions related to living in or accessing ºìÌÒÊÓƵ owned housing
  • Removal from ºìÌÒÊÓƵ owned housing
  • Room inspection/search
  • No contact orders
  • Restriction and/or hold on transcripts, registration, and receipt of diploma until sanctions have been completed
  • Loss of alumni privileges
  • Information released outside the college
  • Alcohol and Other Drug use assessments or other therapeutic interventions
  • Health and Counseling Center meetings
  • Meetings with the Dean of Students (or designees)
  • Limited exclusion from campus
  • Full exclusion from campus and all college-affiliated events
  • Community service
  • Suspension
  • Expulsion
